We can’t wait to welcome all families to Parkgate Farm and share nature’s playground with you. Surrounding the farm we have fields and woodland just waiting to be explored. Climb trees, build dens, watch clouds, whatever takes your fancy. We are also creating a small play area for immediate fun and games right next the accommodation with a grassy area for playing ball games.
Within a half hour drive you can be at the foot of Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain for those wanting to enjoy the high fells. Or you might get side tracked by Wastwater, England’s deepest lake where you can paddle, swim, paddle board or canoe. Ten minutes drive south takes you to Muncaster Castle where you can explore the gardens, look around the Castle itself and enjoy the impressive hawk and owl displays. The start of The Ravenglass to Eskdale Railway (The La’al Ratty) is also a ten minute drive from Parkgate and this miniature railway takes you all the way up the Eskdale valley to Dalegarth from which there are beautiful walks up into the fells or along the river Esk which has some lovely pools for swimming.
We are also perfectly situated if you want a change from fells, lakes and rivers as we are only a ten minute drive from the coast. Drigg beach has miles of golden sands, sand dunes and a nature reserve, home to the rare natterjack toad. Five minutes further up the coast is Seascale which also has a lovely beach, play park, local shops and the best ice cream parlour ever (in our opinion anyway).
