Activities & Things to do When Staying at Parkgate Farm

The beauty of Parkgate Farm is its location away from the noise and bustle found in many areas of the Lake District. Yet it is only 5 miles from Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain) and 5 miles from our beautiful Cumbrian coast. The area has plenty of activities for all ages including wonderful walks from the farm, mountain biking and an abundance of wildlife to view, Muncaster Castle and the La'al Ratty.

Why not plan your holiday by clicking on some of these links below to see what takes your fancy, book any meals out in advance or any sporting activities or equipment hire you might want.

Or you can just sit and admire the ever changing view with a glass of something nice and a good book. Parkgate Farm is the perfect place to unwind away from the stress of modern life.

If you’re heading into the fells it is essential to be fully equipped for all weather (even if it seems to be a nice day) with map and compass. Wasdale Mountain Rescue offer fantastic advice.

Parkgate & Miterdale Forest Trails

Parkgate & Miterdale forests are right on our doorstep and are managed by the Forestry Commission. Offering miles of trail paths, they are ideal for walks at any time of the year. Majestic trees and wildlife and also great for walking or cycling with young children or just if you need a break from the fells!

Golf

Close to Parkgate Farm are two fabulous golf courses. Eskdale is a parkland course, close to Muncaster Castle and with stunning fell views. Secondly, Seascale Golf Course, which is a links course right on the coast looking out to the Isle of Man but also has views of Scafell and the Wasdale Valley behind. Seascale GC has regularly been used for championship qualifying.

Beaches & Dunes

The West Cumbrian coastline often surprises guests with the miles of sandy beaches it offers, our two nearest being Seascale and Drigg. Seascale has a large car park and Mawson's Homemade Ice Cream Parlour and Drigg has extensive dunes that are a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Both are excellent for building sandcastles, leisurely walks, dogs and beautiful sunsets.

Wasdale & Eskdale

We're lucky to be situated between two of the most scenic valleys in the Lake District. Wasdale, home of England's highest mountain - Scafell Pike and England's deepest body of water - Wastwater and Eskdale where the start of England's steepest road - Hardknott Pass begins. Both valleys offer scenery, tranquillity and adventure being top locations for walking, cycling, climbing, ghyll scrambling and stand up paddleboarding.
